Our investigation concerning the Meulenbroeks-family has been very succesful.
Our forefathers all lived in Noord-Brabant, in places as Best,
Bladel, Casteren and Diessen. Most of
them were farm-labourers. In 1682, someone named Henricus
Meulenbroeks was born in Diessen. If he hadn't
been there, our name would have been extinct. Everyone belonging to our family is a
descendant of this Henricus.
Henricus was the great-grandson of Gerardus Meulenbroeks, who was born about 1560. We found a document from the year 1621, in which Gerardus was called "Gerardus, the son of the late Jan Aert Smollaerts, also named Meulenbroeks". The name "Smollaerts" (or Smollers) means miller. We discovered that our eldest forefathers were millers. In 1532, our forefather Aert Smollers rented a farm from the Abbey of Tongerloo. This farm was situated near the place Oostelbeers on a territory named 'the Molenbroek'. His descendants started to call themselves "Molenbroeks" or "Meulenbroeks". We also have some information on the ancestors of Aert Smollers. His great-great-grandfather was Jan de Moller van Straten, a man who was born approximately around 1310. "De Moller" also means miller. "van Straten" means that he lived in the neighborhood Straten, between the places Oirschot and Best. Jan de Moller is the eldest known forefather of all of our seven families! |

Our information about the van Erp-family isn't as extensive as that about the
Meulenbroeks-family. "Erp" is the name of a little village in Noord-Brabant, and
there are lots of families who thank their name to this place. So someone with the name 'van
Erp' doesn't necessarily belongs to the same family as we do.
On February 2nd of the year 1700 someone named Petrus van Erp married a woman named Heijlken van Veghel. This marriage took place in the village St.Oedenrode. We know that Petrus' father was Jan van Erp, en his grandfather was Hens van Erp. The descendants of Petrus van Erp known to us all lived in St. Oedenrode until at least the first half of the 20th century. |

The family van Hastenberg also mostly lived in St.Oedenrode. Around 1710 Adriaen van Hastenberg, son of Paul van Hastenberg, was born. His great-great-grandson Johannes Cornelis van Hastenberg was my great-grandfather. |

Another family we still need to do a lot of investigation about, is the de Groot-family.
Our ancestors lived in the village Uden, and, so we discovered, de Groot was a very
common name there. My great-grandfather was Willem de Groot,
who was the son of Antonius de Groot and
Josina de Groot.
Antonius and Josina got married in 1811 in Uden. Antonius was the son of Wilhelmus de Groot and Elisabeth Verkampen. Josina was the daughter of Jan de Groot and Theodora de Groot. So my great-grandfather Willem had three grandparents named de Groot! Because there were so many people with the same name, it is very difficult to discover the exact family-relations. |

We were more succesful researching the van Moorsel-family. Near the village
Lierop there is a little neighborhood called 'Moorsel', and
that's the place our ancestors used to live. The eldest known forefather is Joost
van Moorsel, who was born approximately around 1500. He is the
ancestor of a extensive family. Several of his descendants had a lot of social status,
among them were mayors, doctors and important manufacturers.
There is, for instance, Henricus van Moorsel, who was born in the middle of the 17th century and who founded a beer-brewery in the village Lieshout. This beer-brewery still exists, and is now known als the Bavaria-brewery. Another Henricus van Moorsel, who was born in 1757 in Helmond, was the leader of an important patriotic revolutionary movement. He was captured, but managed to escape. Later he became the secretary of the city Duinkerken (.....) in France. His son Henricus Godefridus, who was born in 1793 in Duinkerken, later wrote an important historical writing, called "The chronicle of Heeze". Adolphus Philippus Caspar van Moorsel was a priest who was a missionary in Indonesia. He became ill, and had to return to the Netherlands, where Pope Leo XIII appointed him as honory chaplain. In the present there is another well-known family-member. The famous female cyclist Leontien van Moorsel, who has been a World Champion and who has won the Tour Feminin (the Tour de France for women), is also a descendant of Joost van Moorsel. |
